Best dinner on the island and one of my top 5 meals all time! I started with the she crab soup and it forever raised the bar; just incredible. There was so much crab meat in the soup, many pieces that were the size of my fingers. I'm not sure if I will be able to order she crab soup at other establishments again. I could go on - but just order it! For the entrée, I went with the special - seared scallops in a miso broth, bok choy, shiitakes. It was fantastic and was a different preparation than what I am familiar with. My wife had the steak au poivre and mentioned it was the best steak she ever had. I had a bite and was very impressed. Service was wonderful, very attentive and made great recommendations. Our server was knowledgeable on the menu and specials. The manager stopped by to ensure everything was well and to thank us for coming in.

What a disappointment. The vibe I got from all the staff was at best unhappy, like everyone was a bit stressed and didn't really like working there. One guy working the back section of the restaurant looked downright angry every time he picked up drinks from the bar. I ordered one of the appetizer specials - Korean BBQ shrimp with "Kim chi vegetables"...it was OK but the pickled cucumber slices had nothing to do with Kim chi (I.E. not fermented and not spicy). Main course...1/2 a roast chicken with sauteed spinach. ($33.00) It was bad...soggy skin, breast meat that tasted like sawdust, the spinach looked like it was nuked. The bartender asked how is was , I said underwhelming, then corrected myself and said it really isn't very good. She did ask if I wanted anything else but I declined. I sat for awhile, not touching the food, and eventually she came back and asked if I would like a box. (Honestly, I'm not making this up.) Obviously I declined. Eventually I was asked if I wanted dessert. Again declined. The bill is presented, chicken is taken off but she charged me $8 for the spinach that I didn't eat, which I refused to pay for. Unfortunately, I saw her condescending look/rolling eyes in the bar mirror as she turned to make the adjustment. No apology from anyone, and the hostess ignored me on the way out. Clearly this is the result of the complacency that comes from a captive audience. Ranks as one of my top ten worst dining experiences.

Ther is NOTHING we didn't like about Hege's fro start to finish. We opted for the Prix Fixe menu and were all pleased with not only the quantity, but also the quality of every dish. Then there was dessert...fabulous and plenty of it. We will return before we head north again.

We had dinner here. We had 8 in our party. Everyone was impressed with the whole experience! The food was awesome. The menu has a very nice variety, including a Pre Fix Dinner option for $40 which includes your appetizer/salad, entree and dessert. The desserts are to die for. The wait staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The atmosphere is upscale, fun and comfortable. We all felt we would want to come back to Hege's again when we are in the area. It's located very close to the Kiawah Island Resort.

The food was excellent, but over priced. Will visit again because of service. Good wine selection, great location. A little more flare please!

We've been visiting this restaurant for over 5 years, and it's still one of our favorites. The food is excellent and the service is great! I esp love the lamb chops.

Hands down this restaurant was our best meal during our vacation on Kiawah Island. Apparently it has been around for about 7 years and is a real favorite of the locals. That said, this place is definitely more upscale than you might imagine when you first walk in so be prepared for prices that reflect really good food and wine and expert friendly service to boot. We walked in around 6pm right off the golf course and inquired about a reservation closer to 8:15. They were cordial and accommodating and even told us that at that hour, some of the specials like the soft shell crab might be gone. We asked if we could reserve one order for the entree and they willingly obliged and noted it next to our names in the reservation book. Can't beat this type of service! When we arrived at 8:15 we were promptly seated and the dining room was quite full (as was the bar room in front). Our female server was lovely and brought us Pellegrino and drinks right away. She suggested the rose which I thought was fantastic and the Sauvignon Blanc my husband had was really complex...delicious. We skipped right to the entrees and ordered the soft shell crab, the signature Asian style seared tuna in a broth with rice that was perfection. The sides here were also spectacular-the grilled lemon and garlic asparagus were enormous and beautiful. But the brussel sprouts were knock your socks off good-sautéed in a smoky olive oil sourced locally. This gave them the most delicious bacon flavor without the pork! Totally vegan...yum! Note: my husband orders soft shell crabs whenever they're in season and has had only two preparations in his life that he enjoyed. These were fried but the batter was light and let the crustacean really shine! Looking for a Pinot noir that would pair nicely with my tuna, I ordered the Sass 2012 which our waitress recommended and wow was that good. We even bought a bottle at the wine shop in the little fresh fields village on departure! Couldn't ask for more in the way of quality food, great value in terms of the portions which were huge, wonderful wine all served by folks who really care in a warm setting. Definitely making this a regular spot when we come back!

Wonderful meal! Great wine selection, friendly and knowledgeable server, Nick. Each course was fantastic! Started with the PEI mussels and escargot gratinee. Both were delicious. I had the sea bass special and my husband had the steak frites. Each bite better than the last. Cappuccino and dessert, profiteroles, were perfect! Definitely recommend and will make this a repeat!

There are times when you eat a meal and you will remember it forever and tell everyone to go eat there. This was not the meal. I ordered the crab cakes. They came with some strange orange sauce on them, side of red rice and side of asparagus. I had to send the rice back due to being undercooked. Tried mashed potatoes instead. They were pretty good. Asparagus was overcooked. Possibly because the plate was piping hot ... Possibly from sitting under heat lamp for a while - but maybe I am just speculating. I just felt for the price of the meal ($32.00 plate) that it would be awesome. Oh well. My friends' food looked good. Tried a bite of the lobster and it was really tasty. So maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

incredible food. special golden tile fish was excellent. kitchen area could be better designed - closed off - the noise from kitchen was unbearable, so don't be seated near it.

Liver & Onions. Not excited? Well, you have to give it a try... Another best around, and the fresh tuna (I'm told) was great as well... "Speed", behind the bar is in a barkeep class buy himself... Kiawah's loss.

So mad! I have eaten here twice before but this time we sat at the bar. No smiles from bartenders. Finally got the attention of the female bartender and got some menus, didn't ask for a drink order. The male bartender finally got our drink order and told us specials. Drinks were delivered and they never glanced our way again. We wanted to order food but couldn't get their attention and didn't feel like yelling. It was almost humorous - they would come to the end of the bar and NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT. It was nice that the male bartender gave us waters with our wine, but not that he had his fingers all over the tops of the glasses when he gave them to us. We finally left, after having to ask for the check. We were still hungry. Sad.

Had a nice dinner with my husband, in-laws and 2 year old son on a Sunday night at Hege's. Good service, nice dining room. It was on the nicer side, but not too nice where you have to get dressed up and they seemed to be pretty kid-friendly. The food was great. For an appetizer, the crab and lobster cocktail was delicious, but ask for the sauce on the side. For my entree, I had the crab cakes and were really excellent. My husband also liked his steak and great fries with my sons meal. The desserts were just "fine," nothing special. This place is a little pricey, so be prepared for that. I'm from NY, and expect things to be cheaper in he south. Not so at this place.

If you want a $19 fat laced disgusting hamburger with velveeta cheese served on an English muffin, uneatable kids pasta (saltier than the ocean) and below average she crab soup all accompanied by really bitchy service, then this place is for you!! They did take the kids pasta off the bill, and this place had very nice decor and claims French cuisine..... To be fair I didn't try their entrees but I'm not giving this place a second chance....

We have been coming to kiawah for 15 years and have eaten at all the restaurants on and off the island. Hege's is simply the best. Incredible food and wine selection. Don't be fooled by the printed menu as they typically have tons of specials. Tonight I had the lamb chops which might have been the best lamb I have ever had. Most of the others in my group had fresh fish and all raved. Desserts are very good too. Ask for Brett, he is a great waiter enjoy!

Great local restaurant in a quaint area of Kiawah. The meals we had were all amazing with the oysters Rockefeller blowing us away. Salads were fresh, crab soup quite tasty and the entrees exquisite. Good job heges!

The staff here is EXTREEMLY friendly and professional! They really make you feel like you're part of your family. The food is good but watch out! Better be hungry because the portions are big. Go early because it can get loud after 7:30. BTW, order fries with whatever you order...THEY'RE RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!

During a visit to Kiawah, this restaurant was recommended by a local. Our Friday night visit began with a wait at the front door hostess area where we were ignored by various wait staff until someone decided to seat us. The food was delicious, though a tad overpriced. Our waiter was competent but arrogant & incredulous that we wanted to know the prices of the specials ( which he did not know). He also never told us his name, only to call him what we wanted! A refill of my beverage came with a drowned baby roach in it. Our waiter seemed unconcerned, no apologies, no outrage. He didn't bother to take the tea off the bill. I sarcastically pointed out his lack of giving a crap & you can figure out how the evening ended. I'm not saying don't eat there, I'm just saying to be prepared for food served with an attitude.

Friendly and very attentive service. Tons of daily specials - almost another entire menu! We ate here a couple of times 3 years ago and decided to try it again upon our return trip to Kiawah. We ordered a couple of specials- short rib Osso Bucco and scallop appetizer with a peach based sauce. Both were delicious. The calamari appetizer was tasty and not greasy. I had the seafood mixed grill which was very good. No shortage of butter but once in awhile it hits the spot! Crabcakes are excellent. Not mayonaisey or filled with fillers. Just chunks of cab. The kids menu even has a children's filet mignon which was devoured. For desert we shared the key lime pie and strawberry shortcake. Both yummy! We walked out stuffed and smiling. Will happily return to eat here again!

We eat at this restaurant every time we visit the island area. This is a very upscale restaurant. The food is high quality and satisfying. This year when we were there they burnt two batches of the spring rolls. The waiter was a bit arrogant and pushy. For the prices the service should have been much more hospitable. Overall, it is a very nice place to have a nice meal with your family.

Great place if you are staying at Kiawah Island - just a few minutes down the road. Very friendly service and awesome crab cakes! They look small but they are very rich and come with some great side dishes. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

We had an incredible meal here on our last night in Kiawah. We called the day before for reservations, and were seated promptly when we arrived. Just to be safe I would recommend calling for reservations, the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. Our waitress, Cynthia, was SO nice. She knew the menu and specials like the back of her hand and offered great suggestions and did not mind giving her honest opinion on what to choose. we both got the pre set menu - $37.95 for a app, entree, and dessert. This was a great way to go, we both already wanted what was on the selections. He had a delicious salad and I had the crab cake app that was out of this world ... not fried tasting or any breading, just yummy delicious crab in a sauce with more crab and a slaw that was good to. Hubby got the crab cakes for his entree and they were served totally different, in a red pepper cream sauce with asparagus and rice and it was equally if not better than my app. I had the fish of the day, a grilled mahi with veggies and rice. Oh, and the bread to start off the meal... I am not usually a big bread person but oh wow - the cornbread was amazing. For dessert, I had the profiteloes and he had the strawberry shortcake. Both were great. We enjoyed walking over here from the Marriot we were staying at. Would highly recommend going here to anyone, we will be back for sure.

During a recent family reunion vacation on Seabrook Island, our group of 25 made reservations for dinner here and considering the challenges faced to please such a large party comprised of every age group, our dinner could not have been better. Big kudos to our host, Scott. He was extremely polite, prompt and professional as he took charge and directed the wait staff before, during and after our meal. The pace of the evening was consistent and perfect; at no point were was anyone in our party left wanting for anything or feeling neglected, nor did we ever feel rushed. No easy task with a party of 25! The food was fantastic. For starters, all our appetizers came at the same time and each was hot, fresh and delicious. I had fried oysters that were top notch and also tried the crab soup which was smooth, creamy, flavorful and rich without being too heavy. Following the apps, all of our dinners were also presented together and all were hot and fresh. I opted for a petit filet mignon myself and boy, was I glad I did. Cooked perfectly at medium rare (just as I asked), it was easily one of the top 3 steaks I've ever eaten. Excellent char on the outside and buttery, tender and soft throughout. The sauce boat served alongside the steak had an outstanding homemade steak sauce that perfectly complimented the beef. Wow. Timely and uniform service of our dessert followed where I had a perfectly sized slice of fresh key lime pie with a splash of raspberry sauce that really took it over the top. Not inexpensive, but if you're like me and you place value in high quality ingredients, careful preparation and impeccable service, Hege's is worth every penny. Highly reccommend.

Delicious! Nice menu choices with excellent service. The Breakfast dishes are a bit rich but are very decadent and tasty when not minding calories. Restaurant could have better ambiance with a different table layout offering a bit more privacy.

Excellent, excellent!! My wife and I had the mixed seafood grill. The lobster tail was outstanding and the shrimp and crab cake was delicious. Great meal and we would go back when we are back on Kiawah Island! Highly recommend this place!
